Anaesthetic Fees for First 24 h Post-Operatively

At the 14 June 2000 MAB Meeting, the charging of professional fees by the anaesthetist within the first 24 h of an operation was discussed.

Attention was brought to Schedule B of the Contract.

I think many of us were under the misconception that we could not charge at all for the first 24 h after an operation. Well, thanks to Yours Truly, we can now charge the patient if he goes to the special care units (like ICU, CCU, or HDU) and if asked by the primary physician. Generally, we will not be involved unless the patient is ventilated post-operatively in which case, it is implied that the primary physician has requested us to help manage the patient.

Just thought that you may like to know.
