Water Bath Blood Warmer

Contents

The other day, I had a case where the patient lost a considerable amount of blood necessitating blood transfusion. When I requested for the water bath heater, I was surprised to learn that the hospital which claimed to be the premier hospital in Malaysia, had only one water bath heater for blood.

Furthermore, as this is to be shared between the two OT complexes, there is an unavoidable delay should the water bath have to be transferred from the other OT complex.

Proposal

I would like to propose to the adimistration that they purchase a second water bath blood warmer so that,
  1. If there are two "bad" cases going on at the same time, there will not be a shortage of blood warmers, and
  2. There will not be any delay in getting a water bath blood warmer when you need one.

agreed.one for North tower and another for the south as south tends to have more big cases.

I just found out that about one and a half years ago, the hospital acquired a Pressure Infusor System which consists of two separate pressure bags and one fluid warmer.

It looks pretty nifty and Radha, who has used it before, claims it's quite good.

It's kept in South Tower and you'll need to learn how to use it before actually using it.

With this, I think it's probably unnecessary to buy another blood warmer. What do you all think?
