Come On, Let’s Do The Twist

Having problems trying to open the top of this plastic 25 ml Water for Injection ampoule? Do you often wind up with the hole half covered with strands of extruded plastic? Then you’ve come to the right place.

• First, as you twist off the top of the ampoule, try to twist it around the axis of where the plastic seems to be holding on. Do not attempt to twist off the whole top at one go. Leave the plastic tab dangling on to the bottle at one point.
• Next, noting the point where the plastic is stuck, so to speak, pull on the tab in a radial direction away from the centre of the bottle.

There you have it! A nice clean tear at the top with a nice big hole for you to draw up your water for injection.

Note that this doesn’t work with the Polyamp ampoules like those in which Xylocaine (without preservatives) is supplied. For these, just follow the instructions supplied by the manufacturer.
