Dr. Ngun Kok Wah.

Secretary, Medical Advisory Board,

Subang Jaya Medical Centre.

10 May 2000.

Ms. Chin Fong Lye,

Labour Ward Manager,

Subang Jaya Medical Centre.

Dear Ms. Chin,

Re: Haemoglobin Test for and Weighing of Patients Admitted to Labour Ward.
Stocking of Tegaderm IV Dressing.

Please be informed that the Medical Advisory Board has decided that all patients admitted to Labour Ward must have a haemoglobin test done if one has not been done in the 30 days prior to admission. This is so that should the patient require an emergency procedure, e.g. a Caesarean section for foetal distress, the result will be immediately available and there will not be any need to delay the surgery nor to carry on with the procedure without knowledge of this important parameter. The consultants have been informed of this decision at the last Quarterly Medical Staff Meeting held on 22 March 2000.

Therefore, please instruct your staff to check for the haemoglobin test result on admission of all patients to your ward and if one has not been done in the 30 days prior to admission, please ensure that one is done immediately.

Secondly, please ensure that all patients going to the operating theatres for any procedures have their weight noted in the appropriate space on the Anaesthetic form as this is essential for the anaesthetists to calculate the doses of the anaesthetic drugs.

Also, we would appreciate it if you could have Tegaderm IV dressing available in your ward as a stock item as we have found it to be very good and useful.

Thank you,

Dr. Ngun Kok Wah.
